Ze Germans

A nice drive from Amsterdam to Fallingbostel, just have to watch out for those big car drivers who need to get to their destination before they set off.

So far in Germany we have been to a bare foot park. Which is a 3k walk in, you guessed it, bare feet. It has all sorts of stuff to walk on or through. Mud, clay, soil, ice cold water, glass. It was great fun and for €5 you can't complain.

Yesterday we did a bird park which was full of, hmm, birds. The feathered kind. This isn't Amsterdam. By the end of it we got bored of birds but we can't complain as it was free. Should have been €20 each but we did some forgery of someone else's tickets so we didn't have to pay.

Thursday is Bremen including the Becks factory. Then Friday we are off to Berlin and will be staying over. Another tick in the list of places visited!

Thoughts on Amsterdam

This is what you wanted...

So, Amsterdam...

It's busy. Rome level busy. And it is made worse by the fact that bikes are EVERYWHERE. When crossing the streets you have to look about five times before crossing. And then a bike will appear from nowhere. I'd go as far as to say they have a bike problem to be honest. Pedestrians seem to be a distant second in regards to pavements, most have parked up bikes on them, whiles others throw steps from buildings into the mix, forcing you into the bike lanes. Between the bikes, trams, cars the people are all squeezed together. But don't you dare get in the way of a cyclist as a few people did as it is followed by, I assume, Dutch cussing.

After you have walked down one or two canals the rest look the same. Broken up by various building sites. One meant there was no pavement but lots of piles of bricks and sand everywhere. Pedestrians enjoyed walking through that.

One of the brown cafes (aka pub) we went in was great. Loads of beers, far too many. Not cheap though.

The tram system is good. Pay for ticket and then swipe off and on, not too badly priced and they are quite quick although they cross paths a lot in the centre which is confusing for pedestrians!

Hotel is so so. Room is nice, bar is nice but very expensive. Pool and gym included but steam room etc cost more!

Road trip ahead today. Woohoo.

Day out

On 21st of this August month the Needhams shall be embarking on a road trip across the vast swathes of Europe. Well a part of it, a small one.

We shall be visiting historical Hull, amazing Amsterdam, various places in don't speak about ze war Germany and then bonkers Brugge on the way back.

Biggest worry at the moment is a 'badly' leaking timing cap on the car, according to Toyota. And possibly twatting the car into something else. Why can't they drive on the right side of the road? Sorry left! Right?

Or having too much....err...stuff in Amsterdam

This is a blog.
